My Experience With the 40 Hour Famine
Christian Vocation is a very important subject. A vocation,
by definition, is “A vocation is a Calling to action and service that
requires dedication, commitment a notion of meaningful service for others.”
Christian Vocation just means a calling to God. In the modern world there is a
lot of suffering and disaster. People with a Christian Vocation would likely go
out to help these people. There are many examples in the modern world. The
Nepal earthquake that happened earlier in the year is a good example as people
went out of their way to help people affected. The 4o hour famine does the same
as it lets people experience what it’s like in these countries and then the
people doing the program will donate money in order to help the people in need.
I did the 40 hour famine for a similar reason. I wanted to live out a Christian
Vocation and help people like these that are in need.
For the 40 hour famine, I decided to give up food for the weekend. I didn’t eat nothing, however the only thing I really ate was rice and noodles. I chose this because it directly represents what the people in the third world experience. I did it on a weekend because it worked out with everything else in my life. The main difficulty I found was being tempted to eat actual food. I did end up giving into the temptation but I lasted around 30 hours. I got a little bit sick from the lack of food not to mention exercise and hydration.
The 40 Hour Famine was a very good experience for me. It taught me to value everything I have because having no food was horrible. This whole experience made me realise what is going on in the world and why. And it isn’t good. Having people starve not only in other countries but in our own land, is bad and must stop. These people need help. And World Vision is the answer.
